I’m joining the Strange Kids’ Club

Posted in blogging with tags on January 12, 2011 by Paxton

Hello everyone.  Hope you enjoyed yesterday’s “best of 2010” movie article.  Tomorrow I’ll be posting my “worst of 2010” movie article.  Stay tuned for it because you are either going to really enjoy it or really want to rip my liver out through my belly button.  It’s gonna be epic.

Anyway, I thought I’d give you a head’s up that I’ve been asked to contribute content to the website/blog Strange Kids’ Club.  For the last year or so Rondal’s great site has been a friend of the Cavalcade and I check his site regularly.  I talked about Strange Kids Club back in June when they interviewed Shawn Robare from Branded in the 80s.

Well, Rondal asked if I would join the Clubhouse and start writing articles for the site. I had to agree because I love his site and any chance I get to “flex my writing muscles” is one I like to take. So I am on board and my first two articles were posted yesterday. Currently, I have two recurring columns I’ll be writing. The first is called Forgotten Favorites and it’ll focus on forgotten but awesome items from our pop culture past. The first installment talks about the Atari 2600 game, Yars’ Revenge. Check that here.

The second column is called On the Shelves and will be a weekly look at the DVDs/Blu-Rays available to buy that week. I’ll make funny comments and some recommends/not recommends for some of the bigger and geekier home video releases. The first installment of On The Shelves also went up yesterday. Check it out here.

Don’t worry, I’m still going to write this site in conjunction with my articles over there, it’s just another outlet for my overwhelmingly awesome creativity.  So mosey on over to Strange Kids Club and check out some of the awesome stuff.  I guarantee you’ll really like it.

Held Over

And check out my vintage movie advertisement blog, Held Over.  This week I’ve been updating with ads for movies that were picked by the Library of Congress to be added to their archives.  It’s been a lot of fun.

So stay tuned, tomorrow is my “worst of 2010” movie article.  It’ll make me either a God or a goat.

A Poutpourri of Stuff including Sharktopus and Debbie Gibson vs Tiffany

I don’t have a formal article for this week because a) I’m prepping for Billy the Kid Week starting August 9 and b) I’m lazy as hell.  So, here are some quick things for you guys.

First, I finally got off my butt and snagged the cavalcadeofawesome.net domain.  I’ve been thinking about it for a while but I thought I had all the domains I could hold in my package.  Apparently, my domain package includes three domains, not two.  So, along with paxholley.net and paxtonholley.net, I’ve now acquired cavalcadeofawesome.net.  If you already have my feed, you shouldn’t need to change anything, but it’s nice that http://cavalcadeofawesome.net will now bring you here.  At least I think it’s neat.

What. The. Hell. Is. This?! Check out the trailer above for Syfy’s new movie, Sharktopus! The first time I watched it I had to wonder if it was a real movie.  Then I saw Eric Roberts and I knew it had to be real.  And awesome! And crazy as sh*t!

Speaking of bad monster movies, this is a clip from Mega Python vs Gatoroid. WTF is a gatoroid you ask? I have no idea. An android gator is my best guest. However, that’s irrelevant because apparently this movie features a huge cat fight between Debbie (Deborah) Gibson and Tiffany. It’s pretty awesome, see it in the clip above. I love this more than words.

Shawn Robare from Branded in the 80s interviewed on Strange Kids Club

Posted in blogging with tags on June 8, 2010 by Paxton

Wanted to give a shout out to a great interview on the awesome blog Strange Kids Club (SKC).

Strange Kids Club

SKC posted an interview with Shawn Robare from Branded in the ’80s.  I’ve gotten to know Shawn over the years through visiting his blog and talking with him over Twitter.  You guys have probably noticed me linking and talking about him a lot.  He’s a great guy and Branded is one of my favorite websites to visit.  Now, thanks to this interview I have another favorite blog, Strange Kids Club.

Strange Kids Club is an awesome repository for pop culture nostalgia.  Lots of images and video links and great articles on trailers, cartoons, movies and wrestling.  Lots of fun and the design of the site is fantastic.  Congrats to Shawn on a nice interview and congrats to Strange Kids Club for a great blog.

So click on over and read the great interview with Shawn where, and he was very kind to do this, he mentions The Cavalcade of Awesome as one of his favorite blogs.  Right back at you, Shawn.  And stay tuned everyone as Shawn and I are trying to find something to do together.  It should be pants crappingly awesome.  I kid you not.

My Blogiversary: 4 Years of being AWESOME…

Posted in blogging with tags , , , on March 10, 2010 by Paxton

I started what became this blog back on March 10, 2006, four years ago today.  It all started with a nondescript article about Windows Vista.  Actually, I posted like four articles that day.  I don’t know what the hell got into me there.  And two of them were about Microsoft Vista.

As you can see from the picture above, my blog originally started out on Google’s Blogger platform.  I was still finding my feet over there as my articles were all over the map and even less focused than they are now (if you can believe that).  I made the move over to WordPress on Jan 18, 2007 with an article about the return of Jack Bauer on Season 6 of 24; Jack Is Back.  The very first name of this blog over on Blogger was Pax’s Technotainment Blog as I was going to talk about movies, books and technology.  It eventually evolved into What I’m Thinking for a few years and then, in May 2008, I changed the blog’s title to the now infamous, Cavalcade of Awesome.  Along with the move to WordPress and the name change, I also registered my own URL, http://paxholley.net.  I still need to nail down http://www.cavalcadeofawesome.com.

It’s been a fun four years.  I still enjoy writing and posting articles.  I’m not doing four articles a day like that first day, but I think the quality has increased.  I’ve also met several bloggers along the way that I’ve come to know and enjoy.  People like Shawn Robare over at Branded in the 80s, Jen at The Movieholic & Bibliophile’s Blog, Trish at Trish’s Book Reading Nook and Naida at the bookworm.  These people are not only entertaining bloggers themselves, they have enough badassery (totally made that up) to keep coming back to my blog and subject themselves to my particular brand of awesome.  Got to love them for that.

Anyway, I hope everyone here has enjoyed the last four years as I plan on continuing this little ride for the time being.  Stay tuned for my continuing Cavalcade of Awesome.

Welcome new readers to the Cavalcade

Well, my article yesterday about inappropriate Star Wars items hit WordPress’ news page as well as Neatorama’s page. I’m getting lots of positive reaction to it. Glad everyone liked it.  I’ll tell you what, I haven’t seen this much traffic since I was linked by Time muthaf’n magazine almost a year ago.  That’s right, I said TIME MUTHAF’N MAGAZINE.

Time Magazine cover

Wow, now that I look at it, I was linked by Time Magazine a year ago tomorrow. Spooky.  Click the earlier links or my Time Magazine cover to see how I was linked by Time muthaf’n Magazine.

Anyway, it’s funny because the Star Wars article yesterday was just supposed to be a filler article this week to get me through to the beginning of AWESOME-tober-fest next week.  Now it’s all blowin’ up and stuff.  It’s pretty awesome to get this kinda reaction to something I wrote.  So thank you guys.

Oh, for those just joining us, AWESOME-tober-fest is my Halloween celebration and it’s happening the entire month of October.  So you’ve picked a good time to join us here at the Cavalcade.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.  AWESOME-tober-fest starts next week.
