Nerd Lunch Podcast

This week on the Nerd Lunch Podcast CT and I are joined by Timly Barger from timlybarger.com and Jeff Somogyi of sommerjam.com.

This week we are taking one of those trips through the Wikipedia rabbit hole.

Down the Rabbit Hole

You know those trips, you go out to Wikipedia to look up something and next thing you know, 20 minutes later, you’re 50 pages away from where you started.  So, we have two of us pick random topics and we see if we can somehow navigate our way from the 1991 movie Karate Cop all the way over to the 1981 Rush classic, Tom Sawyer.  We make several stops along the way.  Come join us on this Internet-y trip!

Two Podcasts for this Throwback Thursday

Posted in movies, nostalgia, pop culture with tags , , on June 11, 2015 by Paxton

Well, it’s Throwback Thursday, time to gaze back into the ether and enjoy some nostalgic reminisces about times past. I have two podcasts that are just perfect for this lazy, nostalgic day.

First up, the Cult Film Club Podcast takes a look at a movie called Ping Pong Summer.

Ping Pong Summer

While this movie was made just last year, it takes place in the summer of 1985 and is very much informed by those lazy 80s summers. It stars Lea Thompson, John Hannah, Susan Sarandon, a vintage arcade center called the Fun Hub and lots of ping pong.  It’s one I think you should definitely check out.

Also dropping today, a Nerd Lunch Extra Helping all about the 1990 anime-inspired sequel to 1983’s Masters of the Universe Filmation cartoon, The New Adventures of He-Man.

It features He-Man getting sucked into the distant future of Eternia and battling against…well, Skeletor. Again. Yeah, check it out, it’s sort of a fascinating subject.  We talk about the cartoon, the characters, who’s returning, who’s absent.  We even delve into the toys.  Lots of fun discussion.

Nerd Lunch Podcast

This week we are continuing our series of Drilldowns on the original Star Wars movies which began in episode 178.  Now it’s time to delve into the second movie, The Empire Strikes Back.

The panel joining us continues from last time featuring my Jacketeers co-host Geek Kay from Fangirl Blog and Michael May from Kill All Monsters! and the Adventureblog.

We talk about our first time watching the movie, we talk about our favorite characters and scenes, we even discuss things we have issues with as this particular movie is not the favorite for one of the panelists.  We also discuss changes from the special edition and who could Yoda be talking about when he says “No, there is another”?  Spoiler Alert: We think it’s Lando.
