If you follow this blog at all you know that Back to the Future is one of my favorite movie series of all time. I talk about it constantly. Well, today, Monday, May 24th, the second sequel in the trilogy, Back to the Future Part III turned 20 years old. Check out the newspaper clipping above. It was clipped from the Birmingham News on May 24th, 1990.
So, since this is a momentous occasion (lots of classic movie birthdays this year), I’ll have a few Back to the Future related articles this week in celebration.
Stay tuned and Happy Birthday, Back to the Future Part III.
Dude, I’ve totally dragged ass this week on writing a post. I was supposed to put up my Best and Worst movies of 2009 but I just didn’t get around to finishing them. I’ve also got another article reviewing original series Star Trek episodes that I could write, but I just haven’t. Or an article about a great book series I just finished on Tuesday. Any of these could have (nay, should have) been your article for this week, but I just decided to do what my friend Steve and I always did in college. I called it a “personal week”. Meaning I didn’t do s**t.
So, to tide everyone over, I’m going to show you two funny videos I’ve found around the net. Sorta keep you entertained. I fully intend to thrust into your consciousness my best/worst movie lists for 2009, so prepare for that. Until then, laugh along with these funny and insane videos.
Everyone here knows my love of the Back to the Future trilogy. Well Tom Wilson, the guy who plays Biff in the series, actually does stand up comedy now. This is one of his best bits. It’s a song about all the dumb questions he gets asked over and over by fans.
Well played, Japan. Well. Played. You have actually won the Internet with this video.
The original Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies of all time. I saw it over 12 times in the theater the year it was released (1985). The theater by my house played $1.95 movies on Monday nights (as a promotion with the local radio station I-95) and my dad would take my brother and I almost every week. And every week I’d go see Back to the Future again and again. Then when Back to the Future hit VHS, I had my dad go to Blockbuster the day it was released to rent it. I watched it that night, and you can only imagine the moment the final screen on the VHS popped up:
I nearly crapped my pants in excitement after letting out a shamefully, girlish squeal of delight. HOLY CRAP! THERE’S GOING TO BE ANOTHER BACK TO THE FUTURE MOVIE!! My 13-14 year old mind couldn’t comprehend something that awesome. It nearly shut down. What I didn’t know is that it would be another few years before the sequel would be released.
Two very important dates happened this week in pop culture.
First, Back to the Future Part II turned 20 years old. Can you believe it? Back to the Future was one of my favorite movies of all time (if not my favorite) and I loved both of the sequels. Part II was released on November 22, 1989. So happy birthday, Back to the Future Part II! I’ll be sure to have a celebratory article up this week.
The other event is Boris Karloff’s birthday. Today is Boris Karloff’s birthday (122 years old!). Having just gone through AWESOME-tober-fest where the theme was Frankenstein, I was acutely aware that Boris’ birthday was fast approaching. The Frankenstein blog, Frankensteinia, is hosting a Boris Karloff Blogathon this week. Click on over and check out all the cool articles about Frankenstein, Boris Karloff and everything having to do with Mr Karloff. It’s a ton of fun. I’ll also have a review of House of Frankenstein, Boris Karloff’s final Universal Frankenstein movie this week.
Well, as many of you may have noticed I missed a blog entry last week. It’s rare when I don’t come up with something to post. However, I had some medical issues the last few weeks that culminated in me being laid up on the couch pretty much all last week. You may not care, but let me give you the Cliff’s Notes (or Pax’s Notes, if you will) of my last few weeks. Don’t worry, I’ll leave out the grosser details.
In case you didn’t know, I run for fun and exercise. I guess I got a cut one week and it became infected and I had to go on anti-biotics for 10 days. The infection came back and I guess it kept getting worse. I finally couldn’t take the pain anymore so I went to the doctor and they thought it was a fungus. So I go on an anti-fungus medicine for 5 days or so and my face turns purplish-red and swells up to gigantic proportions. One of my eyes almost swells shut. I looked like Violet Beauregard from Willy Wonka after eating the blueberry gum…except I was purple and red. It was ridiculous. So I go back to the doctor to have him look at my new deformities and apparently, I’m now allergic to anti-fungal medication. Nice. So the doctor refers me to a dermatologist before he does anything else, just to be sure. Great idea in order to avoid any more allergic mishaps, but now I have to go to another doctor.
