Nerd Lunch Podcast

So, I was taking a break over the holidays, but the podcast doesn’t.  So while I was out, we had two episodes go live.

Listbusters

Episode 17 went live the week of Christmas. In that episode the three of us fly without a fourth chair and decide to bust a top 25 list from IGN featuring the Top 25 Sci-Fi movies of all time.  The list is pretty good, but the top 2 spots are shocking.  And this episode is an extra LOOOONG version as it clocks in around 1.5 hours due to the number of movies we begin discussing.  Come see what Sci-Fi classics the three of us can’t stand.

Torchwood LA

Going live this week is Episode 18.  In that episode we are joined again by Jay from SexyArmpit.com.  In this episode we all point our browsers towards FanFiction.net to feast our hungry eyeballs on the awesome buffet that can be found there.  We all pick a fan fiction story about a favorite TV property, read it, and review it for the rest of the group.  It’s a lot of fun.  Check it out to see who wears the pants in the Horde and if Jack Bauer accepts an invitation to join Torchwood.

Download this episode from iTunes or listen to it on Feedburner. And yes, we are still on the Zune Marketplace.

Nerd Lunch Episode 15: Brilliant but Cancelled

Nerd Lunch Podcast

Our newest podcast is live. Actually, this episode went live yesterday, but apparently we are so damn popular that we broke the Internet.

Check it out:

Nerd Lunch is too damn popular

Pretty awesome, right? That it is.  Our bandwidth should be reset by now and the podcast again ready for download.

Anyway, this week’s episode is called Brilliant but Cancelled. We are again joined by Fitz who previously joined us for Episode 8: Nerd Decor.  We are discussing TV shows we loved that were cancelled too early.  A lot of good TV is mentioned, many of which you can catch on Netflix streaming.  Come join us.

Download it from iTunes or listen to it on Feedburner. We are also in the Zune Marketplace.

Still waiting for the f**king Teen Wolf cartoon on DVD

Teen Wolf cartoon
So, I’ve talked many times on this blog about my love for the cartoon adventures of Teen Wolf and my desire for a North American release of the complete series (It was already released in Australia).  Well, I was writing my On the Shelves column this week for Strange Kid’s Club and two very obscure cartoons popped up as having complete season sets being released.  The two cartoon series are Captain Power (1987) and Skeleton Warriors (1994).

Teen Wolf Australian DVD set

Don’t get me wrong, both of these series are pretty good.  Skeleton Warriors is actually a pretty awesome concept, but the cartoon itself is, like I said, rather obscure.  What’s next?  Mummies Alive?  King Arthur and the Knights of Justice?  Oh yeah, BOTH of those cartoons already have DVD releases (here and here).  What the hell is the hold up for the release of Teen Wolf cartoon episodes?  They wouldn’t have to do much more than remaster the Australian set into NTSC format.  I don’t really care about extras.  Why hasn’t this been done?  As I’ve seen the parade of odd 80s-90s cartoons get their releases on DVD I become more and more baffled.  The Herculoids get a complete series release?  The f**king Herculoids?  Frankenstein Jr?  Moby Dick and the Mighty Mightor?!  Seriously?  The Teen Wolf cartoon was based on a popular movie.  There’s a fairly decent TV show on MTV right this very f**king moment also based on said movie.  How much more current or relevant can you get?!

At this point, I have to assume there’s a rights issue. Maybe the fact that MTV is airing the TV show is also causing the rights to the cartoon to be up in the air or on hold.  But that’s not my problem.  I want the show.  I’m tired of watching shi**y, grainy episodes on YouTube like I used to watch porn movies on old pay cable stations.  I want these bitches on DVD and I want them NOW.

I mean, The Mighty Hercules was released on DVD.  THE MIGHTY GODDAM HERCULES.

Hollywood, your ancestors are WEEPING!

Nerd Lunch Episode 14: The Star Wars Holiday Special

Nerd Lunch Podcast

Welcome to Episode 14 of the Nerd Lunch Podcast. This week, the podcast is hosted by yours truly and I abuse the powers granted to me by hosting to choose the topic. It is the holiday season so I wanted to do a drilldown on the Star Wars Holiday Special.  I also used my hosting power to select our special guest.  This week we are joined by long time friend of mine and winner of the Access Hollywood Ultimate Star Wars Fan, Jason Collier.

So amongst grumbling from the Trekkies in the podcast, we all prepared to watch one of the most bootlegged and maligned TV shows of all time.

SW Holiday Special cover

Come listen to the Nerd Lunch crew run the “nerd marathon” and watch the special and marvel at the cardboard sets, Bea Arthur as a bartender and Chewie’s dad watching Star Wars porn.  It’s A-MAZING.

Download this episode from iTunes or listen to it on Feedburner. And yes, we are still on the Zune Marketplace.  But maybe not after this episode.

FYI, this is my 500th published post on the blog.  Yipeee!

Nerd Lunch Episode 13: Cartoon Crushes

Posted in cartoons, podcast, pop culture, TV shows with tags , , , , , , , on November 28, 2011 by Paxton

Nerd Lunch Podcast Unlucky episode 13. This will probably end up being “creepy” episode 13.  Our topic this week is to discuss our cartoon crushes. Yes we talk about cartoon people that we find attractive. And to up the creepiness factor, we categorize them into categories like “Dream Date”, “The One That Got Away”, “Bad Girl”, etc etc.  So not only do we actually have to think about our crushes and put a label on them, most of the cartoon crushes we talk about are supposed to be, well, a little younger than us.  So yeah, we toe the line of being awesome and getting a visit from Chris Hansen.

In a move designed to make this episode seem less creepy and lecherous, we are joined by Kristin from the Geek Girls Network. You are going to love her, she’s hilarious.  And yes, we actually talk about half human half turtle babies.  We go there.  And Kristin is the one to bring it up.  I am so in love with this episode.

Anyway, download this episode from iTunes, Zune Marketplace or listen to it on Feedburner.

Again, this is a very visual topic (like the Nerd Decor episode) so I thought I’d give you guys a visual reference to some of my cartoon crushes. These are in no particular order, listen to the podcast to see what category in which I put these lovely ladies.

Supergirl (Kara-Zor El) – Introduced in Batman/Superman in 2003 by Jeph Loeb and drawn by Michael Turner.
