Cult Film Club Episode 10: Miami Connection (1987)

So not only did Nerd Lunch hit triple digits last week, now Cult Film Club is hitting double digits. Welcome to Episode 10 in which we discuss the independent movie sensation of the year, Miami Connection.

Released to very little fanfare in Orlando (and Germany?!) back in 1987, the film was found on eBay last year and bought by Drafthouse Films for $50. Now it’s getting worldwide theater and home video releases with the actors reunited for special fan events like every damn week. It’s nuts how popular this movie has become. So, being that we are Cult Film Club, we felt it was our duty to forgo our original movie pick for this month and check out this masterpiece of dramatic biker ninja action. Do you like feathered hair, white ninjas, aligator earrings and orphans reuniting with their dads? Then you’ve come to the right place.

Nerd Lunch Episode 98: Nerdy Romance

Welcome to episode 98 of the Nerd Lunch podcast. This week we are joined by author Sue London. Sue is the author of Trials of Artemis (The Haberdashers Book One).

We brought Sue in as our resident expert on all things romance so that CT, Jeeg and I could be “cultured up” a bit and broadly discuss the romance genre. We talk about our individual thoughts on romance, do we like it, do we feel it needs to be a part of our media?

We also discuss some of our favorite nerdy romances; Buffy/Angel, Superman/Lois Lane, etc, etc. It’s a fun discussion I think you’ll enjoy. Plus, we are 1 step closer to our 100th episode.

Nerd Lunch Episode 96: The Replicators are still broken

Continuing or climb towards triple digits, welcome to episode 96, which is a direct sequel to Nerd Lunch Episode 9. Unfortunately Jay couldn’t return for this installment so we brought on a brand new guest, Dubba from the blog On Second Scoop and the podcast The Nosh Show.

In this episode we are still in our broken spaceship from episode 9 in uncharted space. Jeeg was able to use some cheap alien labor to fix our replicators a bit more and allow us the addition of 5 condiments for use on the meals we chose from last time. Unfortunately this time around, it’s going to be a bit harder to come to a consensus as some of us aren’t really condiment lovers (don’t look at me). It’s a fun and interesting discussion.

TAG Network Summer Crossover 2013

The next week will be a crazy one for the podcasts on the TAG Network. We are getting all mixed up.

While over there we bring back the long missing Geek News segment and then hold each other hostage for a round of Gunpoint Reviews. Fun is had by all and I get to drop more than my share of profanities in my efforts to mimic Mr Mike Downs.

Nerd Lunch Episode 93: Pop Culture Eraser 2

This week JEEG IS BACK and we are joined again by Brian from Cool and Collected. This week we do a topic that I missed the first time out, The Pop Culture Eraser.

We are each allowed to erase 1 person and 1 thing from existence. But we also have to envision how that would affect the pop culture landscape. Jeeg was pretty bold with his choices but some of the things that get erased are the 60s Batman series, Jay Leno and Christopher Nolan. The fun in this discussion is how this would affect pop culture in general after these things have been erased.
