The movies I’m anticipating in 2015

Okay, I’ve showed you the best and the worst movies I watched last year. What about this year? I thought I’d throw out a few movies that I’m looking forward to in 2015. Now, I’m not saying the movies I list here are going to be the best movies of the year, these are just the movies that I personally am super excited to see as they have something about them that flips that switch in my wheelhouse.

First things first, let’s get the obvious blockbuster ones out of the way. You know the ones:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Superman v Batman
Furious 7
Jurassic World
James Bond: Spectre

Of course I’m anticipating these movies so I’m not going to elaborate any further than that. I’ll do everything I can to see those movies in the theater. Those are a given for me. So, with those out of the way, let’s take a look at some other movies I’m anticipating that may not even be on your radar.

Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland – This looks amazing. Brad Bird is awesome and he got Clooney for this so the script has got to be good.  And check out that awesomely atmospheric teaser.

Hateful Eight
Hateful Eight – Tarantino’s new picture. It’s a western. And it stars Kurt Russell, Sam Jackson, Bruce Dern, Walt Goggins, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Channing Tatum. So, yes, I’m in.

tom-cruise-mission-impossible-5
Mission: Impossible 5 – I loved Ghost Protocol and this entry will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie who last worked with Cruise on the awesome Jack Reacher.

victor-frankenstein
Victor Frankenstein – Not a part of Universal’s planned Monster-verse movies that started with Dracula Untold, this particular movie is from 20th Century Fox, is directed by Max Landis and stars James McAvoy as Victor and Daniel Radcliffe as Igor.  The movie is told from Igor’s point of view.  Cast and plot sound AWESOME.

nwa
Straight Outta Compton – I’ve been a HUGE N.W.A. fan since I discovered them back in early 1988. I was sad when they brokeup but have enjoyed the few reunions we’ve gotten out of them. This movie has been rumored for a while and I’m super excited to see it’s gonna drop in August.  Ice Cube will be portrayed by his son, O’shea, Jr, MC Ren will be portrayed by Aldis Hodge from Leverage, Eazy-E will be portrayed by Jason Mitchell from Broken City, Corey Hawkins will portray Dr Dre and Jerry Heller will be portrayed by Paul Giamatti.  F Gary Gray will be directing the movie.  He previously worked with Cube on Friday and Dr Dre on Set It Off.

Inside Out
Inside Out – This wasn’t really on my radar until I watched this trailer.

Pixar has been going back to the sequel well a few times too many lately. I am really looking forward to this original effort. And that trailer is just GREAT.

Kingsman
Kingsman: The Secret Service – I saw the trailer for this in the theater ages ago. Honestly, I thought it had already come out and I missed it. Glad to see I haven’t missed it. Colin Firth is adorable and I’ll watch him in anything. Especially this.

martian-poster
The Martian – I’ve been aware of this novel by Andy Weir for the last year or so. I’ve gone back and forth about buying it to read for at least the last 6 months. By all accounts I hear it’s a great book. Now there’s going to be a movie directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon? Yeah, I’m in. And now I gotta buy the book to read it.

Predestination
Predestination – This one sort of came out of nowhere for me over the Christmas holidays. I happen to catch the trailer on Apple TV while randomly searching for trailers. Ethan Hawke in a time travel thriller? Ok. Where do I get my tickets?

Project Almanac
Project Almanac – Here’s another movie for which it feels like I saw the trailer so long ago. Another time travel movie (which interests me immediately) but it looks like it’s sort of a found footage style movie. Similar to Chronicle.

Those are the movies right now I’m most looking forward to.  I’ve could’ve also included Ant-Man, but honestly, while I think it looks good, I’m not really 100% on board with that one yet.  Even though I love Paul Rudd.  Literally, like LOVE him.  We’ll see how that one turns out.  More than likely, I’ll be a fanboy by the time the opening credits roll.

  1. The only good movies you posted were disney movies…

  2. Great list. They’re really are some awesome films coming out this year. Going to have to prioritise which ones I want to see on the big screen. Terminator Genisys is also out but I’m not particularly bothered about that one as I think it looks pretty poor. One other one I definitely am interested in seeing is Mad Max Fury Road. Looks really good.

But I’m also really intrigued to watch Predestination and Project Almanac to see if they make it into my Top Ten Time Travel Movies list. Didn’t know about the N.W.A. one. Thanks for the tip!

  3. Excuse me but where is Pitch Perfect 2?! I mean, MI5? Did they really even need a 2, 3, and 4?

    🙂

The Martian was a fun book. More fun on audio. But honestly, maybe just watch the movie.

  4. These are all solid choices. Looking like a great year for movies… Even without the huge blockbusters. Great list.
