My Ultimate Saturday Morning TV Schedule

New assignment for the League this week. And it’s another doozy of a topic.

You’ve been hired to program the ultimate Saturday morning experience for kids across the nation–create your own ideal Saturday morning cartoon schedule.

Unfortunately for the TV network that hired me, I hid a clause within my contract that specifies I’m in charge of ALL Saturday programming. Not just the morning hours. Queue the look of horror from the network execs. That’s right, everyone at the network, prepare your faces for Cavalcade TV.

Cavalcade TV

I’ve programmed an entire broadcast day with badass awesome shows designed to melt your brain and impregnate your wife.  So step back and prepare your face, chest and wife’s uterus for an invasion.  An invasion of pop culture awesomeness.

The broadcast day starts at 6am with:

Looney Tunes Tiny Tunes
6-8am – Looney Tunes/Tiny Toons – For this 2 hour block I would show various episodes of Warner Bros Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons.  I’d probably use the 6-7am hour for the former and the 7-8am hour for the latter. These are all classically awesome cartoons and I feel they are essential to start the day off right.  I’d probably also include the Loony Tunes/Bugs Bunny movies (Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie, 1001 Rabbit Tales, Fantastic Island, Quakbusters, etc).

He Man logo D&D characters
8 – 9am – He-Man and the Masters of the Universe/Dungeons & Dragons – This is sort of the “fantasy hour” I guess.  Two of my favorites, back to back.

Super Friends Spider Man and his amazing friends
9 – 11am – Super Hero Block
– 9 – 10am – DC Super Friends – During this first hour I would rotate a bunch of the old, pre-WB DC cartoons; Super Friends, New Adventures of Batman, Ruby Spears Superman, Plastic Man and The Superman/Aquaman Hour of Adventure.
– 10 – 11am – Marvel Super Powers – In this second hour I would rotate old Marvel cartoons; Spider-man and his Amazing Friends, The Incredible Hulk (1982), Fantastic Four (various series from the 60s and 70s).

Fangface Teen Wolf
11am – 1pm – Monster Block – I love monster based stuff.  Especially cartoons.  For this 2 hour block I’d rotate through some of my favorite monster based cartoons; Teen Wolf, Fangface, Drak Pack, Gravedale High, Groovie Goolies.

The League: Ultimate pop culture cross overs

New assignment for the League this week. Per Brian over at Cool and Collected:

What pop culture heroes or stories would make for the ultimate crossover…

I think that’s a really good question. There’s a lot of different ways to go with this. But, honestly, the first thing that popped into my head was the germ of an idea I had several years ago. I think it would be great if Doc Brown from Back to the Future became the head scientist/mechanic for Knight Industries. I had gone far enough in my pondering to actually mock up scene (click it to see it full size):

BTTF vs Knight Rider

I created this scene a year or two ago. It was an idea I had for a header for this blog. Imagine the logo of Cavalcade of Awesome being right above KITT. The idea just intrigued me. I haven’t actually thought any further than that. No plot ideas on how Doc winds up at Knight Industries, or anything like that. I just love the idea of Doc getting his hands on KITT and grafting on his own wacky modifications.  Like Time Travel and a Mr Fusion.  So awesome.

Another crossover I’ve actually discussed on this blog involves an Old West gunslinger and the King of Vampires.  In 2010 I envisioned and casted a Billy the Kid vs Dracula movie.

Billy the Kid vs Dracula

I casted Emilio Estevez to reprise his role as Billy the Kid from the Young Guns movies. I also casted Sam Neill as Dracula.  Sam had played an awesome evil vampire in the movie Daybreakers so I thought he’d be perfect.

Another idea that I think is a little more serious and could really work well would be a crossover between Torchwood and 24.  The idea being that Torchwood decides to open up an LA office and asks Jack Bauer to be the second in command.

Torchwood LA

This concept may seem familiar to you. I discussed this idea in Episode 18 of the Nerd Lunch podcast. It was an idea explored in a nice piece of fan fiction I read for the episode.  I think it was a great idea and could totally work as a real show.

Other entries from The League:
1) Shawn at Branded in the 80s brings the big guns this week with an epic 80s computer hacking/spy action adventure that combines War Games, Manhattan Project and Cloak and Dagger. I nearly wet myself in excitement.
2) League coordinator, Brian, from Cool and Collected puts together an awesome Old West crossover (Awesome even if he does omit Emilio Estevez’s Billy the Kid).
3) Christopher Tupa imagines an incredible crossover between The Fall Guy and The A-Team.
4) Fiji Mermaid at Sidshow Cinema wonders who would win between Predator and Boba Fett?

5 Awesome pop culture vehicles I’d love to drive in real life

New assignment for the League this week. This week Brian wants to hear what pop culture vehicles do you personally want to drive?

Right off the bat, Brian took the Batmobile off the table, so I can’t include it here. For grins and giggles, though, my favorite version of the Batmobile? The one from Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns.  However, it wouldn’t have been my #1 pick, but it would have made the top 5.  Possibly even top 3.

So let’s take a look at the 5 pop culture vehicles I’d personally like to own and drive. And yes, these are in order of preference.

BTTF Delorean
BTTF time traveling Delorean – Hands down, this is my number one.  And that should be obvious if you’ve read my blog for longer than 15 minutes.  Not only does it look bad ass but it TRAVELS THROUGH TIME.  And obviously I want the one from the end of the first movie with the Mr Fusion (so I don’t need Plutonium) and the 2015 hover conversion (so the thing can FLY).

KITT
KITT – KITT is a very close second. Why is it second to the Delorean? Because it doesn’t come with the ability to TRAVEL THROUGH TIME. Time Travel trumps pretty much anything else.  However, having a talking bad ass car that can almost fly is pretty awesome, so I would want it next.  Btw, I want the classic Pontiac Trans-Am version, not the crappy Ford Mustang version.

Geek Porn: A Look at some awesome, awesome stuff

Posted in Bill Gates, cell phones, humor, Knight Rider, pop culture, technology with tags , , , , on June 26, 2008 by Paxton

Geek Porn

Ask my wife. I’m kind of a geek. My particular geek-ness leans toward movies and technology (computers, gadgets, etc). Everyone from friends to family to friends of family ask me to fix their computers. It’s my lot in life. But I embrace this. As a tech geek, during the day I surf many “geeky” websites that preview new technologies and gadgets months (and sometimes years) before they hit the market. The last few weeks has seen a flood of cool items, gadgets and other stuff that are just so mind numbingly awesome that it may melt your face just looking at them. Of course, I had to tell you guys, my readers, the 4 or 5 people that frequent this site.

So, if you enjoy seeing cool, geeky gadgets that no one else on the planet would buy, then continue ahead for several items that may just fill that void in your soul and make you whole once again in a way that your spouse or significant other never could (sorry, Steph, it’s true).

KITT GPSKnight Rider GPS – I don’t mean to completely blow out your retinas on the first geeky gadget, but how earth shattering is this little nugget of awesome? It’s a portable GPS device similar to a TomTom GO or Garmin Nuvi, but it’s branded with Knight Rider, including moving red lights on either side of the LCD screen. But that’s not the face melting part. Like the Garmin, this GPS has voice directions you can turn on and the voice sounds like…wait for it…wait for it…KITT!!!! Yes, they got William Daniels to record the voice for the GPS directions! When you first start the GPS it says…”Michael, where would you like to go today?” You can reprogram it to use your own name. SO. UNBELIEVABLY. AWESOME. Now I have to buy a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am, trick it out with a KITT conversion and then I’ll be able to cruise around with skin tight jeans, leather jacket, calculator watch and perm-mullet. Look out ladies!
